Traumatic Brain Injury

Brain injuries can occur when there is a blunt trauma to the head, the brain is deprived of oxygen, or swelling applies pressure to the brain. Because is initially difficult to tell how severe or permanent a brain injury is, each person’s situation is unique making their recovery hard to predict.

Some individuals recover at a slower pace and may have some permanent loss of abilities. For these individuals who need more assistance with recovery, the New York State Department of Health has created a service system designed to keep the brain injured survivor out of institutionalized settings and remaining in their community.

At PRALID we provide counseling, training, and advocacy to individuals with brain injuries. We were one of the first agencies in New York to provide these supports and we have the experience needed to assist individuals with their recoveries.
